Mekia Machine's Portrait of the Beautifully Dead (Day) amalgamates the features of famous individuals who passed away in 2022. In contrast to its Night counterpart, this work poses a commentary on the thin line between beauty and monstrosity. Like the Creature, who Victor intended to be beautiful but instead has a terrifying appearance, Mekia’s work is powerfully unsettling. Composed of spray paint, chalk, and even splinters Mekia sustained during an injury in the studio, this staggering piece has physical pain literally built into the paint.
Our Hahnemühle Pearl Giclee paper has a smooth orange peel texture and resin coating which creates a fibrous feel and satin-like finish. With a bright neutral white base, it creates natural black and white images and offers vibrant color reproduction. Combined, this great mixture of qualities give the print the feel of an oil painting.
“I’m always willing to pay more if the paper quality is a priority. Details like the textured paper go a long way.”
“I’ve been wanting to start collecting art but can’t quite afford originals, so these high-quality prints on heavy, textured paper are perfect.”
“The print quality really stood out to me—that’s what I always look for in an art print. It’s perfect for the modern girl who loves vintage style.”
“When I think of dark academia and the classics, this is exactly what I think of.”

What inspires the artist?
"The painting explores the essence of the self and the temporality of life. The foreground and background are muddled to allude to the fleeting nature of life, and the painting serves as a snapshot of the memories we have of the people we have lost."
