The ribbon is an important symbol of the holidays. Used to decorate gifts for loved ones, the ribbon is what holds everything together and makes the package pretty and neat. The ribbon is the extra mile you go, the frosting on the cake, that shows how much you care.
Ribbons are specifically meaningful to us at Bond & Grace. We designed the ampersand in our logo (our beloved &) to look specifically like a ribbon.
Everything Bond & Grace does is centered around tying together multiple disciplines to create a holistic final product. Art, classic literature, and scholarly analysis are the three facets of our work, united by that &, that ribbon, delicate, but impossibly strong.
As anyone who has ever contemplated art or literature knows, it is a world of multiple truths. In our work and lives we aspire to live by “and” rather than “but”. This means holding two truths at once, even when those truths appear contradictory. We explore the stories in our favorite books and showcase innovative artwork. We love classic literature and we acknowledge it can promote stereotypes that hurt people we know and love.
For us, & embodies duality and inclusion. It brings together multiple elements and unifies them as a collective whole. This is important to us as a company because we recognize it as a fundamental truth in our readers. Our audience is a diverse and inquisitive one, they contain multiple identities and span demographics.
We are for the Artists, The Bookworms, The Collectors, The Gardeners, The Changemakers. In every form and combination.
Our company would not be successful if it did not reflect its people, if it did not embody their values. So we have modeled ourselves after the ampersand, the ribbon. To always strive to be more inclusive, more unifying, more multifaceted. To hold two truths in our hands and honor them both. To welcome diverse perspectives and ideas, and encourage challenging conversations.
This may sound complicated, and it may sound messy, but that’s why we have the ribbon. To tie it all up with a bow and present it to you, for you to untie and retie in your own unique and gorgeous ways. Beautiful, isn’t it?
Happy Holidays, from our family to yours.
